Frequently asked questions

What are Freeview vs Freesat Boxes?

A Freeview Box will receive and decode terrestrial live TV broadcasts through a wire aerial and coaxial cable. A Freesat Box will receive and decode satellite live TV through a satellite dish and F-Plug cable. Freeview boxes and channels are inaccessible to Freesat systems and vice-versa, so please check you have the correct aerial installed before purchase.

Which USB is Required?

For DVB400, DVB415 and DVB482 models of Set Top Box you must use a USB stick to record and use timeshift functions. This is so you can store footage and save it without needing to delete it later, simply use a new USB. The USB specifications should be between 32GB and 1TB. Please bear in mind that larger USB devices will take longer for the box to initially read, and so plug these devices in at least 10 minutes before a scheduled recording. For best results, leave the device plugged in at all times until full, and then cancel all recordings, stop all processes, and remove the drive safely from the menu.

What is DVB-T and DVB-T2?

DVB-T channels are the "standard" terrestrial broadcast channels from BBC1 onwards. DVB-T2 is the designation for "High Definition" channels. HD Channels vary as they shifted to regional broadcasts last year, but you can reliably find your HD equivalents starting from 101 (for BBC1).

How to Format the USB?

Sometimes USB devices can become corrupted if removed or powered-off during data reading or writing. To make sure your USB is set to work with the set top box, and remove any corrupted files, you can use the "PVR Settings" menu on the box or, if that is unavailable, use a PC. Insert the USB into your PC or laptop, right-click the USB icon and "Format" to "NTFS".
