Retro Revenge: The Benefits of a TV with DVD Player in 2024

We're not shy about the downfalls of streaming services, the advent of "Freely" and the pivot in the film and television industry to make content un-ownable. As a supplier of portable TVs for caravans as well as the aerials that make them work, not to mention high-bitrate CD players, we are clearly invested in the continuation of tactile physical media.

With that, we are pretty proud to be bringing the new DA383D TV with built in DVD player and multimedia player. But what does this funky retro unit have that a new "smart" TV with a million apps and internet connection doesn't...?

Physical Media Resurgence

Owning and Chasing Media

The main difference between a Smart TV and DVD is the ownership of the media. Both a Smart TV and a TV DVD combo allow you to watch Live TV, but where an inbuilt DVD player shines is the permanence of that media.

We've all seen how ridiculous streaming services and ownership can be in the last year alone. Film series' are chopped up and one service has part 1, another has part 2 and the first one has part 3 again! We also see media circulating these services, with deals and trades being made 365 days a year so that all content has, at one point or another, been on every platform for a limited time rather than one platform permanently.

Ease of Access

Not only is media more difficult to access this way, but once you do have access you don't even own the content! Having all you want at your fingertips one day and then gone the next is a risk you simply don't have with good old DVD box sets or movies. If you dig out a box of old DVDs you can still play them easily on a TV inbuilt DVD player.

When you consider a standard Netflix subscription, for example, you're talking between £70 and £90 per year for access. Once this subscription expires you lose all that content and as we saw above you might lose some of that content before your subscription even ends! Compare that to a television with built in DVD player which is a lump sum of £149.95 once and provides you unlimited access to all physical media!

Truly Portable Media

A portable device like a phone (something a huge number of people are using to watch full-on films and series' nowadays...) is great until you're outside a Wifi network. Once you step out from a solid Wifi or 5G network, watching media is nigh on impossible on these internet-dependent devices.

A DVD player with a little carry case of DVDs is a retro answer to a modern problem, and brings entertainment back to its roots. Watching TV and films while camping, caravanning and more is simply not possible at some sites unless you have physical media.

Combine this offline functionality with a high definition multimedia interface and you quickly realise that a lot of streamed and on-demand content is designed to rope you in to long subscriptions rather than provide one-off-cost value.

Curated Content for Kids

One by-product of the always-online age is how accessible inappropriate content can be to kids. In a matter of moments the can stray from "safe" content to something else entirely.

Having a TV DVD combination makes road trips, nights away and even entertainment at home much safer for kids as their guardians can set them up with curated box sets or movies which are suitable. Whether it's the backseat of the car or giving a kid the freedom to watch TV in their room for the first time, a portable TV and DVD player combo is a valid choice even in 2024.

Create Your Own Permanent Library

With access not only to Live TV and TV recording, but also the DVD player and USB multimedia capability, the DA383 is a haven for owners of physical media. From film and TV to music and more, the DA383 stands proud as a bulwark against the internet-only entertainment flooding the market.

Plan a caravan holiday, camping trip, picnic or just spruce up your kitchen with this portable, modern TV with built in DVD player today!
