"Unpaid carers" is a term I only recently encountered, when Daffodil were awarded the opportunity to stock the innovative Audar E2 vital sign and fall detection watch.
I discovered that the term "unpaid carers" simply means people like you and me (potentially) who happen to have a role in caring for someone. That might mean you rush to leave work early to home to an elderly relative, or it could mean you have a fiancé with hidden disabilities which requires you to cover all the cooking each day.
These tasks build up, and to many that's just what life and family is. It doesn't cross our mind to call ourselves an "unpaid carer".
I bring this all up because a report by a Government taskforce in conjunction with the Care Provider Alliance has identified that Unpaid Carers are responsible for filling in billions of pounds of labour in the care sector, and with the care sector stretching thinner each day the decision has been made to bolster unpaid carers with local council funding.
This funding is aimed towards empowering unpaid carers with equipment, technology, advice, training and a network of shared care. Ultimately, to help us in our "job" of unpaid care.
Daffodil and Unpaid Carer Innovation
This is all featured here on Daffodil because we take our responsibility as the first local seller of Audar E2 very seriously. It has since released on Amazon, but it was our store which first introduced the cutting-edge concept to the public following our two awards as Electronics Retailer of the Year from SME Awards and Prestige Awards.
Seeing that this kind of technology, healthcare which can be picked up online and used out-the-box without waiting lists and condition assessments and social care worker approval is now becoming funded by local councils is a show of good faith in tech like E2.
By providing data and insight and functionality that simply wouldn't normally be available to an unpaid carer, retail solutions like E2 are vital.
Audar E2 is Just Getting Started
We have been stocking and selling E2 for the better part of a year now, and feedback has been impressive considering the scale of a project like this. We have seen measurements being reliable, errors explained well or even solved, and OTA updates add new features to the online dashboard.
As we rack up more Trustpilot reviews, provide customer service from native staff in the UK, France, Germany and China (So you almost always get someone who speaks your language!) and continue stocking E2 we are excited to see how we can aid unpaid carers directly, through retail, without forcing you through hoops of technology applications and subscriptions and care assessments!
Unpaid Carers: You Aren't Alone
I myself spend hours each week tending to a duty of care. Technology like this is out there available to use right away, and with the funding now being given to local councils you might even find more support spaces, contact numbers and technologies available for use in your area!
This was a very different blog article to the usual, but I couldn't ignore the news that local councils are receiving funding directly for unpaid carers, in an unprecedented recognition of the work we do every day on behalf of our families, loved ones, and ultimately the care sector.
For Daffodil to sell a product on the cutting-edge of this progression is a proud moment for everyone here, and I hope I'll be able to offer you all more feedback, improvement and innovation in future from August / Audar.
