I know it's a little early in the month, but the December Freeview update has landed! I have a sneaky suspicion they're going to roll out multiple updates this month and that's why there's a little one as early as this.
This channel update is very small, so let's dive right in:
Freeview Channels Moving December 2024
Tiny Pop
The Tiny Pop broadcast has hopped to Freeview Channel 206 from it's old position at 208.
Tiny Pop is a kids TV channel aimed at the real little-uns, aged between 4 and 6 years old. As someone who recently heard they are going to be an Uncle for the first time just last week, I'm only around 4 years away from needing to know what channel Tiny Pop is!
Pop Player
Pop Player has taken over the now-vacant spot at Freeview Channel 208, leaving its old position at 212.
Pop Player is the half-channel-half-app available through channel streaming, which pools together the Pop and Pop Player channels with on-demand streaming. Especially useful for children with absolute favourites and to ensure you're never out of kids content!
Freeview Channels Closing Down December 2024
Create & Craft
Create & Craft from Freeview Channel 85 is no more. One of the many shopping channels to be coming and going these past two years, Create & Craft focused on hobby goods specifically.
TV Shopping itself is a dying art, and targeting a niche within a niche by focusing solely on hobby goods might have been too much of an ask for a modern Freeview audience.
Pop Max
Eagle-eyed readers might have noticed that I didn't list Pop Max when I spoke about Pop Player earlier. That's because it's no longer part of the Pop network!
Pop Max has been removed from Freeview Channel 206.
Pop Max was an additional channel for children aged 6 - 10, which is the same range covered by the main Pop channel. While they did show different programmes to add variety for the age group, I suspect that the great variety and choice from streaming on Pop Player has made Pop Max redundant.
Filmstream
You get one guess what FIlmstream was. Alas, the channel is now no longer found at Freeview Channel 257 (Or any other channel for that matter).
Filmstream at the very least did provide an insight into the wider world of film. By focusing on award-wining pieces from all over the world as well as films featured at prominent international film festivals, Filmstream tried it's best to be a great way to discover films you might have missed on your traditional film channels.
Remember to Retune!
That's all for this little start-of-December update. Maybe they wanted to get it uploaded before the Christmas season kicks off, but I suspect we're due another drop before then (Or during).
Remember you can check the Freeview Channel Checker to see what changes and channels are available in your area to make sure your box is up-to-date!
Til the next time, have a great December.
If I don't see you until the January update then have a fantastic holiday and new year too!
